Aloha, I am an Author, certified Nurses aide, A.L.A.C.E. Certified and D.O.N.A. trained Birth and Postpartum Doula, Apprentice Midwife (North American Registry of midwives direct-entry midwifery student), Childbirth Educator, Lactation Counselor and Positive Birth Movement Facilitator. I am fortunate to have received training from Local Birth professionals including Tina garzero, Kadi mourningstar, linda harrison, Jan Francisco and jan ferguson, as well as international educators Karen strange (newborn RESUSCITATION skills), Pam England (Ancient map for modern birth and doula as mentor) and the red cross.
I am also a Co-founder, Professional Member and Communications Coordinator for Pacific Birth Collective.
I moved to oahu from New York in 1988 at the age of 20, migrating to Maui in 1991 after finishing up classes at UH Manoa. The birth of my sons inspired me to become a midwife and I have now been working with families on the island of Maui for 20 years as an educator, birth attendant and caregiver. I have three grown sons of my own, the first born at Maui Memorial Medical Center and then two born at home in Ha'iku with traditional midwives. I have attended over 100 births on Maui, both in and out of the hospital, and helped many more families in their personal transitions to parenthood, in their care and education of their children, and in their desire for comfort and safety for their elderly parents.
My sons have had NONTRADITIONAL scholastic experiences, each having been HOME SCHOOLED and "UN-schooled" at some point in their educations. I am very proud of the men they have become and they are all valuable and compassionate members of our island community. you may see them surfing at ho'okipa, cooking and serving up MEDITERRANEAN food in pa'ia, caring for native plants and landscapes upcountry, tending to some of the finest and fanciest cars on the island or even on stage singing somewhere!
